Scale 6x1 or 4x3?

Writer: Sandra SiniccoSandra Sinicco

Paulo Feldmann, professor at FEA-USP and specialist in Organizational Economics, and Cassio Spina, founder of Anjos do Brasil and Partner at Alya Ventures, were our guests to talk about a topic that, after the pandemic, with the expansion of remote work, has become even more relevant: what is the ideal workload to balance quality of life and productivity?

How do we migrate from a 6x1 model in Brazil to other alternatives? The topic is being discussed in the Chamber of Deputies based on the proposal by Deputy Erica Hilton of PSOL-SP, which proposes changing the current 6x1 scale to 4x3.

During the meeting, moderated by Sandra Sinicco, Co-Lead of Tech Brazil Advocates, models such as those in the Netherlands, where the weekly workload is 29 hours, and others such as Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, with an average of 35 hours per week, were presented. The approach aimed to understand how technological advances can help propose this viable, what the challenges are and how we should prepare for it if approved.

At the end of the meeting, some important conclusions pointed to the fact that investing much more in education and increasing productivity is necessary to move towards a model that includes improving quality of life. Education should involve preparing workers for new technologies and ongoing refresher programs to migrate between roles and guarantee employment and productivity.
